Long time CCAR member and respected colleague Richard “Dic” Pratt, passed away on November 15, 2017. Dic was with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Drysdale Properties in Pleasant Hill. He was awarded Emeritus Member of the Year in 2016 and Realtor of the Year in 2012. Dic also served the Association on multiple committees, including the Board of Directors, and as a C.A.R. Director. Prior to launching his career in real estate, Dic worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Europe, and was in the first graduating class of Pleasant Hill High School. Frieda Forest McReynolds King, 79, of Berkeley passed away on May 2, 2017 from a short illness. Two services will be held to honor Frieda.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 13th at Concord United Methodist Church, 1645 West Street. A celebration of Frieda’s life will also be held at the church following the funeral service.

An additional Celebration of Life service will be hosted at 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon May 13th by Frieda’s children Crystal Forest Cavin, Bonnie Forest Sterngold, Mary Forest Caron and Sterling Forest at NCEFT (National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy) 880 Runnymede Road in Woodside, California. Howard V. Sumerlin, 94, passed away on April 17, 2017. Founder of Allied Brokers in Walnut Creek, he was a World War II veteran bomber pilot and later a successful entrepreneur who served as CCAR’s President in 1975. Howard lived in Alamo for 42 years with his surviving wife, Beverly. He is also survived by two siblings and a large family of children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 2:30pm on Monday, May 8, 2017. Condolences may be sent to Beverly and family at 337 Livorna Heights Road, Alamo 94507.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Jack Burns, Sr. passed away on March 9, 2017. A beloved REALTOR® for 45 years, he was Broker of Record/Co-Owner of Security Pacific Real Estate, Inc. since 1981 until he retired in 2012. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jack´s life on March 21, 2017 at 3:30pm at the Green Valley Country Club located at 35 Country Club Dive in Fairfield.

Affiliate member Curtis Lawson passed away on January 19, 2017 at the age of 70. Curt was a Vietnam Army Veteran and the owner of Concord Termite Control for over 30 years. He was a respected leader in his church and admired by his colleagues and community for his honesty, strong morals, faith, generosity and kindness.

Ben Miller, a vibrant and beloved member of Dudum Real Estate Group, passed away suddenly in his home on November 22nd. He was a dynamic and caring member or our real estate community and will be dearly missed.

REALTOR® Ben Miller started his real estate career in 1998 as a mortgage broker and switched to the sales side of the business in 2011. A master of customer service and a true passion for residential real estate, he touched the hearts of all he encountered. Ben was also very active in the Lamorinda community, and was a believer in giving back. Ben is survived by his wife Ashlie and young children Max (6) and Raleigh (3 months).

Two events will be held in his honor in January: Friday, January 6th and Saturday, January 7th, 2017 (see details below).

Paulina Pulliam McGill, GRI, CRB, passed away peacefully in her home on June 11, 2016. She was a well-known and well-respected REALTOR® serving as the Vice President and co-owner for John M. Grubb. As a pioneer for women in real estate, she was the first woman manager of a real estate office in Contra Costa County. She was a founding member of the Women’s Association of REALTORS® and the Contra Costa Association of REALTORS® Scholarship Foundation. Paulina will always be remembered for giving back so much to her community.

The CCAR family has suffered a terrible loss with the passing of our Director of Education, our colleague, our dear friend, Nate Ellis. Nate was a man of rare gifts—that he shared freely with all of us. Among these were his tremendous life energy, his irrepressible optimism, and as you know, his love of all things new. We miss him greatly.

We´re sad to note the passing of longtime CCAR Member (since 1968!) and Orinda Broker, Steven Beckett on April 11 after a long illness. Many of you may remember Steve for his passions, including cooking, hiking and a 1965 Pontiac GTO muscle car. Services were held on April 17th.

Paul Sween, long-time CCAR member most recently affiliated with Berkshire Hathaway Drysdale Properties in Danville, passed away unexpectedly February 22nd. He leaves behind an 18 year-old son, Michael, for whom a college scholarship fund has been started. If you would like to contribute, please call 925.359.9901 for information. A memorial Mass for Paul will be held at St. Isidore´s Catholic Church in Danville at 10:30 this Saturday, March 19th. There will not be a reception following however the family will greet attendees before and after the Mass.
